The Original, Since 1984
In 1984, Colorado River guide Mark Thatcher had a problem. Flip-flops floated away in the rapids, and trainers stayed soaked for days. His fix was simple: he attached nylon watch straps to a pair of sandals so they would stay on his feet in the water and on the rocks.
That idea became Teva, the original sports sandal. The name comes from the Hebrew word for nature, and more than forty years later the brand is still about getting outside and staying there a little longer.
Built on the Original Universal
The Original Universal keeps the essentials of that first design: a lightweight footbed, quick-dry webbing and the Universal Strapping System, with points of adjustment at the ankle, instep and heel so you can dial in the fit.
- Quick-dry webbing made from recycled plastic
- Hook-and-loop closures that go on and off in seconds
- A rubber outsole for traction on wet and dry ground
From the river to the city
What started on the water now goes everywhere: festivals, city streets, campsites and long days of travel. The straps have changed colour and pattern a thousand times, but the idea is the same as it was on the Colorado River: comfort that keeps up with you.
Made for the water, built for everywhere else.
